    Bret has over 10 years of experience in the consulting field with a focus on environmental investigation and remedial activities at sites impacted by hydrocarbon contamination and other chemicals of concern.  His experience includes the scoping, execution and reporting of phased and tiered based environmental site assessments ensuring they meet client specifications under EPA and state regulatory programs.

    Bret’s environmental field experience includes, but is not limited to Slug Testing, Monitoring Well Installation and Development, NPDES Surface Water Sampling; LNAPL Recovery; Waste Characterization Soil and Groundwater; Air Sampling and Monitoring; Petroleum Contaminated Soil (PCS) Sampling and Handling; System Remediation O&M; Utility Locating; Injection Remediation; Emergency Response and Clean-Up; Site Surveying, and Vacuum Extraction. His environmental reporting experience includes, Phase I and Phase II site assessments; Tier 1 and Tier 2 site assessments; NPDES reporting via the OEPA eDMR web database; UST Closure assessments; Non-Compliance Notifications; AIR reports; Groundwater Monitoring reports; Free Product Recovery reports; Immediate Corrective Actions reports; 24-Hour Notification reports; and 30-Day Follow-Up reports.

    Bret’s consulting experience also includes working for oil and gas exploration and production clients in Texas and Oklahoma, and as a geotechnical consultant for clients in Ohio. He is an American Red Cross certified CPR/First Aid/AED, Lifeguard, and Wilderness and Remote First Aid instructor, and has fulfilled the Branch Safety Officer role for multiple companies.

    Field and Project Geologist

    Provided Emergency Response services for surface spills and releases at client retail facilities. Performed Tier 1 and Tier 2 site assessments for associated chemicals of concern at client properties. Performed NPDES discharge monitoring for client sites containing environmental control ponds and Oil/Water Separator units.  Managed and maintained remediation systems installed at client sites. Occasionally used alternative forms of remediation in the form of Surfactant, BOSS-200 and O-Zone injection to expedite transport and/or deterioration of site contaminants.

    Performed soil and bedrock foundation assessments for potential cell phone tower sites.


    Field Geologist, Laboratory Technician and Report Writer

    Performed a bedrock assessment for the Mar’s Rover testing site at the Plum Brook NASA Station near Sandusky, OH.

    A coring machine was used to collect bedrock samples beneath the testing site. Data from the bedrock analysis was used to determine if the site contained similar geologic characteristics to that of Mars.

    State of Ohio Department of Transportation

    Field Geologist, Laboratory Technician and Report Writer

    Provided concrete and material testing for new roadways and bridges being constructed by ODOT.

    Performed a bedrock assessment of the Ashtabula River to determine foundation re-construction of the I-90 bridge.  A coring machine was used to core trough the bridge, and then a drill rig was used to collect the bedrock sample from the river.  Data from the bedrock analysis was used to determine the correct type of caissons to be used for the bridge foundation.

    Oil and Gas Exploration Experience

    Multiple Oil and Gas Exploration Firms (Barnette shale and fort worth basin aquifers – Texas and Oklahoma)

    Field Geologist

    Provided “mudlogging” services for multiple Oil & Gas Exploration clients in the Texas and Oklahoma region. Drill cuttings were collected and analyzed within an on-site mobile laboratory during the drilling process to locate potential oil aquifers, and determine their properties for potential production well installation. Boring logs and reports were completed daily for client review.
