    Shannon Barr has five years of hands-on experience in the environmental, safety, and health industry. Her experience includes completing industrial hygiene surveys for the United States Army in various locations throughout CONUS. During this time she evaluated a broad range of general and industrial operations, as well as specializing in medical processes. She is proficient in the use of the DOEHRS database system and has been responsible for uploading and updating information in this system. She has also overseen the health and safety program with an environmental testing laboratory. Here she wrote various health and safety programs and created trainings on these topics and conducted safety audits across two business lines and five locations.

    Industrial Hygienist

    As an Industrial Hygienist, provided site surveys to various U.S. Army locations in Virginia, Kentucky, New York and Hawaii, as well as assisted teams in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Japan.

    Operations evaluated include hazardous materials storage; range control sites; water treatment laboratories; Department of Public Works (DPW) operations including plumbing, carpentry, and lawn maintenance tasks; hotel operations comprising of aquatics, housekeeping, HVAC and Refrigeration, and laundry processes; various dining, food service, shopping, and recreation centers designed for Army Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) activities; MEDDAC processes such as general surgery clinics, pharmacies, laboratories, radiography suites,  occupational and physical therapy clinics, and medical specialties; and materials handling processes. The information collected from the site visits was uploaded and managed in the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS) database system. In addition to collecting process information, industrial hygiene surveys were conducted. This includes noise source, noise dosimetry, ventilation, and air monitoring.

    Also responsible for assisting with the development of client deliverables at the closure of each client site, and updating work instructions for the usage of industrial hygiene equipment, and training and troubleshooting with co-workers, as necessary. Assisted team with in house shipping of equipment to field sites and tracking of all equipment locations and calibration dates. Completed monthly in-house safety inspections to keep VPP star status up to date.

    Environmental Services Laboratory
    Safety Officer

    Managed the health and safety program for an environmental testing laboratory. Duties included developing internal safety programs across two business lines and five locations. Programs implemented include Emergency Action Plan, Fleet Safety Program, and Hazard Communication Program. Also, conducted accident investigations and mock OSHA inspections and created findings spreadsheets along with compliance calendars to ensure findings were tracked to closure, created an electronic MSDS database and corresponding department binders, and delivered weekly Tool Box Talks. Furthermore, established monthly safety committee meetings with efforts to become certified, and managed ISNetworld database contractor site requirements.
